So you are thinking about writing a romantic novel? That’s a great idea, considering that romantic novels are generally the bestselling novels fiction genre. However, in interesting information about these types of novels is the fact that there are quite hard to create and write in an intelligent and innovative manner.
The first thing you need to do if you really want to write romantic novels is read romantic novels. You must have an idea about the way that they are written and the different styles of the writers. There are also a lot of romantic sub genres that you can check out.
Another thing to consider before writing your first romantic novel is following the one and only formula for romantic novels. The formula is quite simple and has been around for many years. The first thing is – write about a hero that your reader will love and a heroine that your reader will feel deeply intertwined with. Then, write about a conflict that will be believable enough.
Obviously, the heroine and the hero will be apart at some point, so just make sure that you don’t make a mess out of that part with pointless discussions and misunderstandings. Usually, the third part of the formula is the “happy end” part. That is the easy part, just don’t overdo the cheesy moments.
Another thing to keep in mind is focusing of the payoff, but when I say payoff, I mean the emotional one. The readers of your book actually want to find feelings inside of them while they are reading your book.
You should be careful about the plot twists and plot ending because by killing off the hero/heroine, you are basically drifting away from the romance genre and therefore, the romantic side of the story is kind of…not there anymore. While writing, you should keep the action throughout the novel all of the time. The characters should be having conversations, fighting, not talking and then talking, having deep moments with one another and their friends etc. Make it interesting for your readers, not just dull and tedious.
The relationship between the main characters should always be the central topic in your book. We should be witnessing the process of your two main characters truly falling for one another. The physical attraction should also be conveyed. The readers want and must have sense about the way that both characters are really falling for each other. That is the only way you can make your story more believable.
The physical attraction is definitely one of the most important subjects of the journey of your characters. Therefore, make sure all of your readers are truly experiencing the process of falling in love in your book. Some of them might sympathize with the characters, and others might see a part of themselves in your fictional characters.
The one thing that is certain is the fact that romantic novels must be written from the heart, if the writer wants to touch the hearts of his/her readers.
